Are you willing to risk what is uncomfortable for what is right? This week we’re talking with Katrina Miller, a filmmaker, producer, and owner of Blackat Video Productions, who joins us to talk about her film “This Is [Not] Who We Are” — a documentary that takes a deeper look at the unprogressive reality of being Black in Boulder, Colorado. On this episode, Katrina shares why she is using her passion to advance social activism, the Black experiences that inspired her documentary, and the ways you can take your advocacy from demonstrative to action — even if being open about your truths on social justice issues makes others uneasy.

We’re exploring:

  • A behind-the-scenes look at 3 powerful clips from Katrina’s upcoming film “This Is [Not] Who We Are”
  • How Katrina’s mom influenced her passion for the arts
  • Katrina opens up about her experiences as an African American in Boulder
  • Revealing disparities in how Courthney, Emily, and Katrina react to police
  • The message being sent to Black business owners in Boulder
  • Struggles of breaking out in film as a Black woman
  • Courthney’s powerful call to action to find the solution to inequalities and disparities
  • Emily’s frustration with performative activism
  • Why you MUST do the “work” for what is right for BIPOC and social justice issues
  • The discomfort of being honest about your truths — and the importance of having open conversations anyway
  • And so much more!
